Eco Material Technologies played a leading role in advancing industry standards through a recent update to ASTM C311/C311M, the national standard that establishes testing methods for coal ash and natural pozzolans used in construction materials.

Cole Spencer, Director of Research at Eco Material Technologies, helped drive the effort to modernize the standard by proposing the addition of a faster, simpler method for measuring coal ash fineness. The method, already widely used by producers throughout the industry, is now officially recognized within ASTM C311/C311M.

The update brings the national testing standard into closer alignment with current industry practices, enabling producers and laboratories to conduct testing more efficiently while maintaining consistency and reliability.

Spencer led the validation work supporting the change and played a key role in guiding the proposal through the ASTM committee review process. The successful adoption of the update highlights Eco Material Technologies’ technical expertise and ongoing commitment to advancing the science, standards, and best practices that support the construction materials industry.
